Atlético Mineiro starlet Bernard is desperate to be included in their upcoming derby clash against América Mineiro despite fitness issues.

Bernard suffered during midweek from a virus and there are doubts over his ability to play a full match but the youngster is insistent on playing his part.

“I made it clear I want to play and I will hopefully be on the field. We have a very strong group. The desire of every player is to play, and I’m no different. I want to be on the field to help my teammates win three more points.

“It’s against América, which are always tough games. It’s decided on the field, regardless of the form. We have to get get the first goal. Tomorrow, we go in search of the three points.

“América will always be opponent I like to face, having won my first title as a professional against them. I hope I will get back to form.”

Coach Cuca says the youngster could be in line for a starting berth despite the virus: “He’s recovered from the virus. He was very vulnerable, but he has regained the weight he lost.”
