Vasco da Gama executive director René Simões has revealed that the club are closing on two new signings in the aftermath of their Taça Guanabara defeat to Botafogo.

Simões hinted that one of the players is currently based in Brazil and that they intend to seal a deal in the next few days for a defender.

“One of the athletes is in Brazil. We’re in the pursuit for a great player for the position. We hope to accomplish this with the help of a partner.”

Vasco also needs to solve a registration problem in time for the second stage of the Campeonato Carioca, as two of their new signings do not appear on the register of the Football Federation of Rio de Janeiro.

Yotun and Sandro Silva are the players not named on the records and Simões revealed that the club are in talks to resolve the issue.

“Two weeks ago, Vasco players have been seeking to increase the level of the squad. As a big club, we need to be competing for titles. So the board has been trying to improve the squad.”
