Botafogo’s Clarence Seedorf claims that their Taça Guanabara win is ‘just the beginning’ for the club as they celebrate a 1-0 win over Vasco da Gama.

Seedorf gave an imperious performance at the heart of Botafogo’s midfield and helped set up Lucas’ eventual winner.

The Dutchman spoke to reporters after doing a lap of the stadium to acknowledge the Botafogo support.

“I’m so happy. I think the celebration after the game showed the importance of it for everyone, for the fans, for the players, the coaches, and for Botafogo.

“We gave our best, we raised our game and gave more conviction. It was great to celebrate, we will celebrate for a few more days, but we know that was just the beginning and we have many more to come.”

As winners of the Taça Guanabara, ‘opening phase’, Botafogo will face the victors of the Taça Rio, ‘closing phase’, in the Carioca State Championship final to become Rio de Janeiro champions.

Should the Fogão win the Taça Rio too, which kicks off next week, they will automatically be crowned tournament champions and claim their 20th Carioca title.
