FIFA are said to be concerned about the progress of the famed Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro after reports of delays ahead of the new deadline.

Brazil are required by FIFA to complete all six stadiums hosting the 2013 Confederations Cup by April 15, but there are reports that the Maracana is a serious doubt.

General secretary of FIFA, Jerome Valcke, has reportedly told the press congregation that he is concerned about the Maracana’s progress.

“The city which I will be visiting in two days is the one that worries me the most,” Valcke told Brazilian media accompanying his visit to the northeastern city of Recife.

Valcke will be in Rio to end his trip on Thursday, when he will also participate in a board meeting of the local World Cup organizing committee.

Maracana, which will also host the World Cup final in 2014, was one of the stadiums not delivered in December as FIFA originally required.
