Real Madrid coach José Mourinho believes that Cristiano Ronaldo is not only superior to Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, but has surpassed the achievements of Brazil legend Pelé.
The Portuguese coach made his claim ahead of Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford this evening, as Madrid prepare take on Manchester United in the second leg of their Champions League tie.
Mourinho said he was unconcerned about United’s efforts to deal with Ronaldo and believes his player compares favourably against Pelé and Argentinean Diego Maradona.
“How do United stop Cristiano Ronaldo? That’s not my problem,” Mourinho said in an interview with ITV. “It’s never a problem – I never want to stop Ronaldo. It’s their problem
“He is the best. The best in the world, yes. Probably the best ever. I saw Maradona a couple of times. I never saw Pele. But Cristiano is amazing. This man is the best.”
The game will be Ronaldo’s first time playing at Old Trafford since his £80million transfer to the Spanish giants in 2009.
