Vasco da Gama midfielder Bernardo is delighted at his team’s 3-2 victory over Brasileirão champions Fluminense which saw them go through to the next round of the Campeonato Carioca.

The away side fought back from 2-1 down to win the game and Bernardo contributed with a goal to ensure that Vasco remained in the competition.

“I held no more emotion left to cry again, it was worth it. We had a winning spirit, we wanted to fight and fight,” Bernardo told reporters.

It was a wonderful battle. Vasco took to the pitch and fought, and managed to score goals. We took the comeback, and we are on the rise,” said the midfielder.

Vasco have suffered setbacks in recent months, with the departure of key players such as Juninho Pernambucano, Nilton and Alecsandro.

But the club looks to be back on the rails after this win.
