Fluminense midfielder Deco has played down the importance of his side’s Copa Libertadores trip to Huachipato on Thursday as he does not believe the result determines anything.

The 35-year-old was a second-half substitute when Fluminense were beaten 3-0 by league rivals Grêmio in the competition last week.

However, all four teams in the group have three points apiece so the former Chelsea star is not overly concerned about the result of this week"s game.

He said: “The game does not decide anything. Any result there will not be decisive. It is logical that a win will help us greatly and a defeat complicates things, but it does not decide anything.

“We had two goals and one has been fulfilled, which was to reach the semi-final of the Taça Guanabara [in the Campeonato Carioca].

“Now is another championship. We will have difficulties, but we will try to win."

The reigning Brasileirão champions travel to Chile for Thursday’s game before Huachipato visit the Engenhão on March 7.
