David Luiz and Ramires were unable to prevent Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of a resurgent Manchester City side after superb individual goals from Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez at the Etihad.

The defender had a quietly impressive game in the blue shirt but was unable to do much about either of the goals while Ramires had a poor performance which will cast doubts over his place in the team.

Manchester City announced their intentions to chase down city rivals Manchester United in the Premier League and they overcame a lacklustre Blues side bereft of confidence.

After a goalless first half, the game burst into life as Toure received the ball on the edge of the box after a pass from David Silva, instantly taking out two defenders with his first touch before surging into the box and curling a deft effort past Petr Cech.

Shortly after, Tevez put the game beyond doubt as he thundered a 25-yard effort past the flailing Cech for the second and dashing Rafael Benitez’s side’s hopes of a comeback.

Oscar also came on near the end on a cameo but did not impress during his short spell on the pitch.
