Flamengo president Eduardo Bandeira de Mello has released a statement to confirm that the club have accepted a proposal that will see striker Vagner Love return to Russian side CSKA Moscow.

Vagner Love, 28, joined Flamengo for €10 million last January, but the club have struggled to keep up with the payment plan negotiated by former president Patricia Amorím.

With the club having paid €1 million up-front, with six instalments of €1.5 million to follow, there were warning signs when December’s second instalment was not met.

Now, with CSKA offering a compromise solution, it appears Flamengo have decided to reduce their financial burden.

“Unfortunately, we are here to give some bad news,” Bandeira told the gathered press. “We received an offer from CSKA and we considered it good for both parties, so decided to accept.

“I want to make it clear that I have the greatest respect for Vagner Love, who is an athlete who always respected the club in a correct manner.

“He is an idol to the fans, an idol to me, an idol to my kids and I wish him luck. I would hope to be here with him to announce his return to Flamengo.”
