Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez has admitted that he is unsure where he will play David Luiz as injuries mount up for the Blues.

The Chelsea boss is facing a selection headache with John Terry still struggling with a knee injury, Oriel Romeu ruled out for the season and John Obi Mikel likely to be called up for the African Cup of Nations.

The former Liverpool man said that it was likely that Luiz would fill in at either position when necessary, having played the Brazilian in defensive midfield in recent games.

“He can play in both positions,” he told reporters. “It depends on the game. We are trying to manage the centre-backs, John Terry is not available. I can see him playing as a midfielder for more games but I’m not sure how many.

Chelsea are preparing for their clash against Stoke City on Saturday at the Britannia Stadium after progressing in the FA Cup with a 5-1 win over Southampton.
