Cruzeiro director Alexandre Mattos has praised the club’s signing of Brazilian striker Diego Souza from Al-Ittihad and revealed that they have not yet finished strengthening ahead of next season.

Souza, 27, only moved to the Saudi Arabian club earlier this year from Vasco da Gama, but after not being paid for three months decided to return to Brazil and join Cruzeiro.

“I understand that Diego Souza, to date, is the main hiring of Brazilian football,” Mattos told TV Alterosa.

“We are working to see a similar situation to try to thicken further our cast.”

Mattos refused to reveal the names of the club’s targets but assured fans that they will be ambitious in their attempts to improve the squad.

“We seek players who are not only desired by Cruzeiro. Any team in the world is behind athletes with history.

“Cruzeiro is a great club with excellent values. Within this reasoning, anything is possible. We will not express who we are chasing, but because competition increases and hinders our chances.”
