AS Roma defender Marquinhos believes believes his side can turn around their inconsistent start to the season and look to challenge for the top slots in Série A.

Marquinhos, 18, has been a surprise performer in the opening months of the 2012-13 season, forcing his way into the first-team and drawing plaudits for his performances.

With Roma adapting to a new attacking setup under manager Zdenek Zeman, the side have conceded too many goals at the start of this season. However, the Corinthians-loanee has still emerged as a fan favourite.

“It"s a bit early to talk about expectations, but there"s always the dream of going far and working to win," Marquinhos told Roma Channel.

“We"re working to keep climbing [the table] and more forward game by game, step by step, and we are playing to win every game."

Regarding his own form, Marquinhos responded modestly: “I didn"t expect [to be playing regularly so soon], but I always have my head concentrated on working and my feet on the ground. It"s because of this that the coach likes me, through always working hard.

“I"m here to get better and better, I"m here to win everything there is and to give my best for Roma. I"ve played some good matches but I"m always working for more and to improve."
