Cruzeiro have confirmed that Marcelo Oliveira, who was sacked by Vasco da Gama earlier this year, will take over as coach of the club for the 2013 season.

A statement released on the club’s website confirmed that, after a meeting on Monday in Belo Horizonte, Oliveira has signed a one year contract at the club.

Oliveira, 57, who was born in Belo Horizonte, will face Atlético Mineiro in his first game in charge. The derby will be the opening game of the Minas Gerais State championship and also the reopening of the Mineirão, which has been renovated ahead of the 2013 Confederations Cup and the 2014 World Cup.

Cruzeiro concluded on Monday the understanding that coach Marcelo Oliveira will take over the team in 2013. The coach signed a one-year contract with the club and will start working with the board in assembling the team.

The new commander of the club will be presented to the press on the afternoon of Monday, at 16h, in the Administrative Headquarters of the club. Along with Marcelo Oliveira, also hired are assistants Cleocir Marcos dos Santos (Tico) and Haggai Gonçalves de Siqueira, as well as the physical trainer Juvenilson de Souza.
