Brazil legend Ronaldo believes that, despite the 2012 Brasileirão being won by Fluminense, his former club Corinthians is still the best team in Brazil.

It is two years on Wednesday since Ronaldo scored his last professional goal in a 1-0 victory for Corinthians against Cruzeiro, and the former Barcelona, Inter Milan and Real Madrid star is still a fan of Timão. He told Globo Esporte that his former team is still the best.

“We saw the Corinthians playing with commitment in these last games and are now returning to the level of winning the Libertadores. And the Corinthians that won the Libertadores is the best team in Brazil today.

“Of course, Fluminense proved to be a great team, but the Corinthians did not give priority to the championship. Still, they are 6th and if they had forced a little more would be fighting for the title.”

However, the former striker was still keen to praise Fluminense on collecting their fourth Brazilian title.

“Fluminense had a very big advantage for the entire league, not just numbers, but effectiveness in games. The team won many games without playing the best football. In the final stretch they managed several tight victories, but that helped hold the advantage. The title of Fluminense was deserved.”

And Ronaldo, who was forced to retire in 2011, is still hoping for a farewell game with Corinthians.

“This idea still stands, I really want to do this farewell game for Corinthians. But we’re waiting, we want to do it in the new stadium of Corinthians.”
