The 29-year-old, who is currently the Brasileirão’s leading scorer with 17 goals, has been in superb form for the league leaders this season but is yet to receive a call-up from Seleção coach Mano Menezes.

Fred has been overlooked on numerous occasions this year, missing out on friendlies with South Africa, China, Argentina, Iraq and Japan, and also stated that he is not even thinking about a call-up whilst Menezes is in charge.

The former Lyon man, who was also snubbed to face Colombia next week, has revealed he is going to work even harder next season to try and achieve his dream.

He told Sambafoot: “The 2014 World Cup is my goal. It is a dream for me.

“But I know there are a lot of very good strikers in Brazil. This is my main project for next year.”

Fred also reiterated his desire to remain in Brazil and to finish his career with Fluminense, where he has been since 2009.

“I’m really happy here in Rio and Fluminense. I have projects in mind. I want to finish my career at Fluminense,” he added.

Fred currently has 18 caps and six international goals to his name, since his Brazil debut in 2005, and represented the Seleção at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
