Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has praised midfielder Anderson for his impressive midweek display in defeat to Chelsea and hopes to give the Brazilian more opportunities as he looks to improve his fitness levels.

Anderson, 24, was subbed late in the encounter at Stamford Bridge having visibly tired in the second-half, a disappointing end to a fine performance that saw the former-Porto player grab a hat-trick of assists.

The legendary Scottish manager heralded the playmaker"s display in the Capital One Cup clash, but also admitted that the player must look to improve his current fitness levels with increased game-time.

“Anderson was the best player on the pitch [on Wednesday] until he tired," Ferguson told reporters on Friday. “He needs games now and hopefully we can give him them."

The Brazil international has shown great quality when given opportunities this season, having missed most of the 2011-12 campaign through successive injury concerns.
