Former Manchester United, Inter Milan and Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre believes that former Brazil international Ronaldo was the greatest team-mate of his illustrious career.

Silvestre, 35, made the comments during an interview for British television, ranking Ronaldo ahead of the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Scholes, Thierry Henry and Roberto Baggio.

The duo played together during the 40-cap France international’s spell at Inter Milan in the 1998-99 season, before he swiftly moved on to enjoy great success in England.

“The greatest player I played with was Ronaldo, the Brazilian,” Silvestre told BBC Sport. “Even if you asked Zidane the same question, he would give you the same answer. I was fortunate to play with someone like that and it was amazing.”

The 1998-99 season was the Brazilian’s second at the San Siro, scoring 14 goals in 19 league fixtures as he continued to terrify defences post-France ’98, off the back of back-to-back World Player of the Year crowns.
