Brazil’s Sporting Justice Tribunal (STJD) have upheld an appeal by Palmeiras that will see the result of their league fixture with Internacional ified until a hearing on 22 November.

Palmeiras have appealed to the Tribunal regarding a disallowed goal, that they believe was chalked-off by referee Francisco Carlos Nascimento following information garnered from a television replay – a situation not permitted by FIFA.

The STJD’s decision to hear the case was revealed by chief legal officer Piraci Oliveira on Twitter, stating: “The STJD requires that the match is suspended while we start this process. The three points of Inter, for now, do not count.”

The STJD have since informed media organisations that this process is standard when dealing with a party seeking the annulment of a result.

It is not the first occasion that Palmeiras have sought action via the STJD this season, with the Verdão invariably finding their protests unanswered.

“We are taking action,” president Arnaldo Tirone told Lancenet!. “We are being consistently undermined. We will fight for our rights and I believe we will reach our aim. We will show that we were prejudiced and that it was not right to disallow the goal.”

The question of whether it was right to disallow the goal is a difficult issue, with the correct decision having been made through an undeniably flawed process.
