São Paulo’s Rogério Ceni has praised Ganso’s dedication to his rehabilitation but says the former Santos playmaker is still three weeks away from a return to first team action.

Ceni told reporters: He surprises me with his dedication, he is a really dedicated man. I see Ganso every day in Reffis. I believe that the injury is healed, which is very important, and now it’s about physical preparation.

“I believe that in two or three weeks, who knows, he might be in some condition to play. If he can play in time, he will come with the team for the final stretch of the Copa Sudamericana.”

Ganso has found himself sidelined for several months after suffering long term knee and thigh problems and is preparing for a return to first team action.

The Seleção midfielder signed for São Paulo from Santos earlier this season for a reported fee of R$23.9m (£7.4m), with the player determined to prove himself at a higher level.
