Paris Saint-Germain defender Mamadou Sakho has praised his central defensive partner Thiago Silva following their 1-0 win over AS Nancy on Saturday.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the winner in the 74th minute with an impressive solo effort, which was his 12th goal in all competitions, after earlier hitting the crossbar with a free kick.

Nancy also hit the woodwork early on through forward Benjamin Moukandjo and made life difficult for the visitors.

PSG’s defence has significantly improved since Thiago Silva’s €42 million transfer from AC Milan this summer, and Sakho believes the Brazilian will be key to the club’s success, despite being a quiet player.

Sakho said: “He is someone who is fairly quiet, but this is perhaps because of the language barrier as I see him talk to the Brazilians and Italians.

“He gives us a lot of confidence and is a very quiet player with the ball, with a sense of exceptional anticipation.

“A player of this quality is essential to grow this PSG team.”

The win meant PSG are still unbeaten this season and are now three points clear of Toulouse and Marseille at the top of Ligue 1.
