São Paulo are in good form at the moment but coach Ney Franco is hoping they can handle the off the field problems just as well.

The head coach was faced with a confrontation with goalkeeper Rodrigo Ceni on Wednesday during their Copa Sul-Americana tie with Liga de Loja after he called for Franco to put Cicero on as a subsitute.

However, the former Brazil under-20 coach was not amused with the veteran’s behavior. He told Globo Esporte: “I do not approve. Each to their own. If I wanted to put Cicero I would have placed him with no problems.”

The club moved to ease the incident the next day with the goalkeeper called in to explain his behavior, although Franco was keen to play down the incident.

“Absolutely nothing happened. These were natural things that happen during the game. It’s the coach who decides.

“My position is safe, because I’ve never been afraid of losing this jobs. It’s part of my everyday life. I know well what my role at the club is and when one begins to enter the area of another, the it can be complicated,” he added.
