After securing qualification for the quarterfinals of the Copa Sul-Americana, São Paulo head coach Ney Franco spoke out about the behaviour of Rogério Ceni saying he does not approve of the goalkeeper interfering in his work.

Franco, 46, told Fohla de S.Paulo: “I do not approve. Each man must do his own job.”

The interference came halfway through the second half when, according to the former Brazil under-20 coach, Ceni asked him to bring Cicero on to take advantage of his height.

“If I wanted to put Cicero on then I would have,” added Franco.

The coach made two substitutions in the second half, he withdrew Ademilson, who started the game because of injury to Luis Fabiano, and Jadson for Douglas and Willian José, who according to the São Paulo website is even taller than Cicero.

Ceni is a legendary figure at São Paulo, with more than 1000 appearances for the club since joining in 1992
