Botafogo head coach Oswaldo de Oliveira has praised the influence that Clarence Seedorf is having at the club, describing the number 10 as a ‘leader of the team’.

Seedorf is the most experienced player at the club and has quickly taken a leading role among the players and the coach admits that he talks a lot with the former Dutch International about how things are going.

He told Lancenet: “He is a leader for the team. We talk a lot and he always tries to see what I’m thinking about things. He has a very good experience for reading situations. He looks at what’s going on and see’s the details of the game that are very important.”

The coach also spoke about the the problems his team encountered in the derby against Vasco last week, where their passing was particularly wayward.

“I think that it is not a problem. Our team is the one team with more possession.

“We played a lot on the opponent’s half, but with the field reduce it is a normal thing to waste passes eventually,” he added.

With 44 points and sat in seventh place in the table, Botafogo are 11 points behind São Paulo in the race for a spot in the top 4 and to qualify for the Copa Libertadores in 2013.

Oswaldo’s team will face Figueirense on Wednesday evening.
