Coritiba’s newest signing Alex de Souza has revealed he is looking forward to training with his new club.

The 35-year-old rejected approaches from other former sides Cruzeiro and Palmeiras to return to the club of his childhood, where he has signed a two-year contract.

The former Fenerbahçe captain is raring to go as he has not trained or played competitively since his contract was terminated in Turkey last month, following a disagreement with coach Aykut Kocaman.

However, as the registration period has ended for the Brasileirão season, Alex will be unable to play until 2013.

He said: “I’ll do the medical examinations, enter the physical department, and talk with them to see what they think.

“Even until September 30 I was training and playing normally.

“So starting Monday I’ll have more details on how things will work in relation to training for me.”

Alex also spoke about the amazing reception he received from the 10,000 Coritibia fans at the Couto Pereira yesterday.

The midfielder added: “Not in my best dreams I could have imagined it.

“I imagined returning to Coritiba, playing my last game and then ending my career, not a party and reception as beautiful as this.”
