A crowd of expectant Coritiba fans greeted former Fenerbahçe star Alex da Souza as he landed at Afonso Pena airport, Curitiba, on Saturday morning. However, the playmaker disappointed fans by refusing to reveal where he will next be playing his football as he prepares for a return to the Brasileirão.
The 35-year-old, who started his career at Coritiba, has been linked to a number of top-flight clubs since he left the Turkish giants last month, but was keeping quiet on his next destination.
He said: “In my mind, it’s already decided. But, at the right time, I will disclose. Now I’ll rest a bit, sort out my stuff, and in 10 days, I think I will announce.”
The reception for the player was unexpected.
“For me it’s amazing. In Curitiba, at 8 o’clock in the morning … It’s exciting.”
As well as Coritiba, Alex has been linked with a number of clubs since announcing his plans to return to play in Brazil including former clubs Palmeiras and Cruzeiro.
