São Paulo midfielder Denilson believes his mother helped him score his wonder goal against Palmeiras at the weekend, which was his first professional goal for the club.
Luciene Maria Pereira, mother of the 24-year-old, died in 1998 and it had been her dream to see her son playing and scoring a goal for Sao Paulo. However, sadly she passed away due to a heart problem when Denilson was just 10-years-old.
In an interview with Lancenet, he said: “She and God helped me a lot, especially with that shot. Not accidentally, knowing that I was going to score. But in the way of where the ball went, it was something that I think my mother put her hand on the ball and did well.”
The former Brazil Under-20 captain is into his second consecutive season-long loan spell with his boyhood club and would love to stay here come the end of the season.
“We will have to see. I don’t even know if I should say this, but I like to play in Sao Paulo. It’s a different feeling, as I have a special affection for this club. When I put on the shirt, I’m a different Denilson.”
