Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro played a pivotal role to help Spurs overcome Aston Villa and claim their fourth straight Premier League win today.

Spurs moved within a point of second-placed Manchester City with a 2-0 win over struggling Aston Villa, thanks to goals from Steven Caulker and Aaron Lennon.

However, the biggest performances arguably belonged to Sandro and his midfield partner Mousa Dembélé, who both completed more than 90% of their passes.

The Brazilian midfielder has started all seven of Spurs’ league games this season and has already formed a natural partnership with the former Fulham man.

The pair’s defending against Villa was also impressive with Sandro making two important tackles and seven interceptions, whilst Dembélé managed eight successful tackles and four interceptions.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is now looking forward to facing London rivals and former club Chelsea, who visit White Hart Lane after the international break.

He said: “The ambition to be among the top teams we have is immense and it gives us a good opportunity.

“It’s obviously going to be a difficult game but we are showing good levels of competence and we hope to profit from the fact that we play at home, and profit from the fact that we play an unbeaten league leader. That will help on our motivation to try to beat them.”
