03.05 BST: Brazil will return home tonight, it is announced. The match is CANCELLED. Embarrassing.

03.02 BST: Andres Sanchez (Brazil NT director) says that they have agreed with their Argentina counterparts to call the game off if there is no light at 23.05 local time (03.05 BST).

03.00 BST: Seeing pictures of the stadium once more. Still no light from the troublesome pillar.

02.57 BST: Brazil national team director Andres Sanchez has said there is no other date on which this game could be played.

02.55 BST: We are coming up to that 20 minute deadline and there is still no news from Resistencia.

02.51 BST: Lucas Moura: “We are hoping for play in half-an-hour. Now we will wait in the changing rooms. It’s disruptive.”

02.46 BST: Some reading – Diego Souza has helped Al-Ittihad to the semi-finals of the Asian Champions League.

02.43 BST: Apparently we will know within 20 minutes what is going on. I’m not convinced!

02.39 BST: The players are leaving the pitch and are supposed to be returning in half an hour, if they can get a generator working to power the lights.

02.36 BST: The is talk now that the referee is close to cancelling the game. There is only so long that the players can be kept waiting.

02.34 BST: Mano Menezes: “It’s terrible because we have prepared and now we lose a bit of concentration.”

02.31 BST: The players are playing keep-ball to keep warm. Still no light from one pole.

02.27 BST: You can follow me on Twitter – @chris_elastico

02.25 BST: They are all still out on the pitch at least. Doesn’t look promising for play anytime soon though.

02.22 BST: The players are becoming annoyed. The cameras are focused on former Atlético Madrid and Liverpool winger Maxi Rodriguez.

02.19 BST: Have you listened to our Brazilian football podcast? Take a look here.

02.16 BST: The teams have been on the pitch for 20 minutes now. They will need to warm-up again soon.

02.13 BST: The referee is insisting, it seems, that all pylons are lit before the game starts. This could be a while.

02.10 BST: The commentators are reporting that this has been a problem for more than an hour, with the lights failing regularly.

02.08 BST: We appear to have light on the far-side! Or, at least from some of the lights. Ridiculous.

02.07 BST: No sign of light yet. Will keep updating you. The TV broadcasters are cutting away from the pitch, but the players are still out.

02.05 BST: There are, then, three Brazil-based players in the Argentina line-up. Pablo Guiñazu (Internacional), Juan Manuel Martinez (Corinthians) and Hernan Barcos (Palmeiras)

02.03 BST: Maybe not, we have a delay and it looks as though it is too dark currently. This is embarrassing.

02.02 BST: It appears there are some issues with the floodlights on one side. However, it looks like we will start in dimmed conditions.

01.59 BST: The teams are on the pitch, then. Mano Menezes has made the bold call to leave striker Leandro Damião out of the side, leaving Neymar to lead the line alone.

BRAZIL: Jefferson; Lucas Marques, Dedé, Réver, Fábio Santos; Ralf, Paulinho, Arouca, Thiago Neves; Lucas, Neymar.

ARGENTINA: Ustari; Desabato, Sebá Dominguez, Lisandro Lopez; Peruzzi, Maxi Rodriguez, Braña, Guiñazu, Clemente Rodriguez; Martinez, Barcos.

01.54 BST: Before all that, read Leandro Damião’s thoughts on the traditionally hard-fought encounter.

01.53 BST: Full team news on the way in a moment. Remember this is an international involving only domestic-based players.

01.52 BST: Welcome to you all, wherever you are in the world. It is time for the Superclássico das Américas, live from Resistencia in Argentina!
