Paris St-Germain defender Thiago Silva will return to Porto tonight for the first time since his ill-feted spell at the Portuguese champions ended in 2005 after just one season.

Seleção captain Silva, 28, moved to Porto in 2004 after an impressive debut season in the Brasileirão with Juventude. However the move did not work out as planned and the former AC Milan defender never actually played for the first team.

Despite having signed on a 5-year contract Silva was sold to Dynamo Moscow after just 1 season. The move to Moscow was another disaster and he eventually had to move back to Brazil and rebuild his career with Fluminense.

Speaking to Globo Esporte, he said: “I entered the stadium just once for training and nothing else. It was unusual. It was my first move to Europe and I wanted to do my job for Porto, but unfortunately it did not happen the way I expected due to many factors.

“I do not blame anyone for not having played. The funny thing is that I went to Milan and waited several seasons to play them but it did not happen.

“I waited so long for this moment to play in that stadium and then in my first season at Paris (PSG) I will perform there. It will be a dream come true.”
