Thiago Silva believes big-spending Paris Saint-Germain are already one of the best teams in the world, but still have to prove it with results.
The Brazilian international, who has only made three appearances so far, completed a €42 million transfer from AC Milan to PSG this summer.
The French club also splashed the cash to sign some of football"s biggest stars, including AC Milan"s Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Napoli"s Ezequiel Lavezzi, Dutch defender Gregory van der Wiel, as well as paying €44 million for 19-year-old São Paulo winger Lucas Moura.
Having spent over €150 million [£121m] to build their star-studded squad, in addition to offering highly generous salaries, Thiago Silva believes the Qatar-backed club must now prove their quality on the pitch.
The 28-year-old said: “Paris Saint-Germain are already one of the best, at least on paper. Now we need to put this into practice.
“I am convinced that we can reach further than Milan [in the Champions League], and not just because of Ibra [Zlatan Ibrahimovic]. Neither he nor I are going to win a game alone.
“What counts is the group. The presence of Carlo Ancelotti [coach] and Leonardo [director] also influenced me. If they were not here, I certainly would have stayed in Italy."
As one of the most expensive defenders in the world, Thiago Silva feels that he is under more pressure to perform for the Ligue 1 outfit.
He added: “Of course, I"m proud of being the most expensive player in the French league, but suddenly, my responsibility is much greater. I have an obligation to get results."
Thiago Silva, who captained the Seleção at the London Olympics, also spoke about the quality of the French league, which he expects to improve following the investments made by Paris Saint-Germain.
“It is not the best league in the world, but also not the worst. It is more physical than the Italian League, where the tactics count more," he concluded.
PSG are currently second in Ligue 1, behind their next opponents, Marseille, who they face on October 7.
