Fluminense kept their title-challenge on track with a 2-1 victory over Náutico at the Estádio Raulino de Oliveira. Two goals from Fred and Leandro Euzébio shortly before half-time were enough to secure all three points, even when Kim fired home a consolation effort in the final minutes.

Palmeiras began life under Gilson Kleina with a 3-1 win over Figueirense that moves them to within five points of safety. Marcos Assunção, as so often, was the inspiration as he supplied two assists for Thiago Heleno and Henrique, before adding a third, shortly after Aloisio’s consolation effort.

At the Vila Belmiro, Santos continued their unpredictable form with a 3-1 home defeat to Portuguesa. Two goals from Bruno Mineiro, now up to 11 for the season, and one from Léo Silva saw the visitors cruise to a 3-0 lead, before Santos eventually pulled one back through striker André.
