Ganso, 22, has been at the centre of complex negotiations since making clear that he intended to leave the Vila Belmiro earlier this summer, with third-party, and player agency, DIS also involved in proceedings.

The deal agreed will see São Paulo pay the club R$23.9 million (c. £7.5 million) to buy Santos’ 45% ownership of the player, although it is unclear if the entirety of this ownership will transfer to São Paulo.

DIS, whose representative Delcir Sonda is Ganso’s agent, will continue to retain at least 55% of the player’s ownership rights.

“I won and made my own history here,” Ganso said upon leaving the Vila Belmiro. “I know I gave my best. I leave with a sense of accomplishment.”

A photo published later on São Paulo’s official website revealed that the midfielder will now wear the No. 8 shirt upon arrival at the Morumbi, having signed a five-year deal at the club.

Currently injured, Ganso should be available to make his first appearance in São Paulo colours sometime in November.
