Barcelona full-back Dani Alves has offered his backing to Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, in the wake of the controversy over the player being “sad”.

Alves, 29, believes that while his colleague Lionel Messi is the best player in the world, any team would benefit from the addition of the Portuguese forward.

The Real Madrid man has seen his comments of discontent criticised in the Spanish media, with many seeing them as a plea for a pay-rise. However, Dani Alves made very clear that he would not criticise Ronaldo over his behaviour.

“If I were in charge of a club, I would like to have Cristiano in my team,” he told Brazilian TV channel Esporte Interativo in an interview on Monday.

“Nobody is perfect, but I like Cristiano Ronaldo a lot. Everyone has their own ways, I do not criticise that, as for many people my ways are not right either.”
