Former Lyon defender Cris made his debut for Galatasaray yesterday, during a friendly with Italian side Genoa.

The 35-year-old recently joined the Istanbul club on a two-year contract, following a €1.25 million transfer from the Ligue 1 side, where he spent eight years.

The veteran centre-back’s first appearance in a Galatasaray shirt was a penalty shootout loss to Genoa, in which he played the whole 90-minutes.  

Cris said: “For a start it is very good. We have a young team and we created a lot of scoring opportunities.

“I am very happy with my debut in the jersey of Galatasaray.”

The Brazilian, who represented the Seleção at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, could make his next appearance for the Lions’ when they take on Antalyaspor in the Süper Lig on September 15.
