According to English newspaper The Guardian, Tottenham have made a new attempt to secure the signature of Brazil striker Leandro Damião.

Damião, 22, is currently with the Olympic squad in the UK, where he is in-line to be crowned top-scorer, having already found the net six times in four games thus far.

Internacional have insisted that they would like to retain their remaining crown jewel, following the departure of Oscar earlier this summer, but Globo Esporte believe they would be powerless to resist any offer over €20 million.

Tottenham have been chasing the powerful forward for some time and hope to use their strong relationship with the selling club to push through a deal.

With just ten days remaining until the start of the 2012-13 league season, Tottenham find themselves worryingly short of striking talent, with Jermaine Defoe the only senior striker available.

The White Hart Lane side are now hopeful of securing Damião, who would be available to complete formalities as early as Sunday, following completion of the Olympic football competition.
