Paris Saint-Germain defender Alex believes André Villas-Boas should have been given more time at Chelsea.
Villas-Boas was sacked just eight months into managerial reign at Stamford Bridge by Blues owner Roman Abramovich in March.
Alex, who left Chelsea in January to join PSG, has seemingly suggested that Abramovich panicked following the emergence of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur as Premier League title contenders.
"André should have been given more time," the 30-year-old Brazilian told Champions magazine.
"After all, the club spent a lot of money getting him from Porto and needed to take into account that there was a new manager with new players to settle in.
"Everybody [at Chelsea] was starting to look over their shoulders because Manchester City had arrived in the top four and Spurs were catching up."
