Santos manager Muricy Ramalho has confirmed that Chelsea midfielder Florent Malouda was offered to the club, but believes it is ‘out of the question’ due to his “scary” wage demands.

Malouda, 32, is expected to leave Chelsea this summer, after a disappointing season in which he featured infrequently for both Roberto di Matteo and André Villas-Boas before him.

The French international’s wife, Florencia, hails from Brazil, leading the French Guiana born winger to favour a move to the South American nation.

“Malouda was offered to us,” the Santos boss told reporters. “He is a very interesting player, but you get scared when they tell your their demainds.

“They say they are in crisis in Europe, but they spend so much money on transfers there. He was offered to us, but when you think about his wages, it gets hard.

“He is a very good player, an old-school midfielder who can hold the ball and set the tone in attack.”
