Dario Conca shocked Chinese Super League champions Guangzhou Evergrande on Wednesday by submitting a transfer request, but the Chinese club are not willing to release their star.

Conca, 29, is reportedly unhappy with his status at the club, having been often substituted due to the league’s foreign player rules.

Evergrande chairman Liu Yongzhuo had spoken of his shock at the decision, as Conca told Lancenet that he hoped to return to Brazil this month.

Former side Fluminense and rivals Flamengo are those currently considering a bid for the Argentine.

Liu later told Dongfang Daily: ”At the start we bought Conca for US$10 million, there is no way we will sell him cheap now, unless a Brazilian club can offer a good price. Now the the second transfer window will close soon (12th July), it is difficult to complete it before then.

”He needs to feel loved. If he is not comfortable he will get annoyed. We are not short of money, we won’t sell Conca cheaply. If a Brazilian team can afford him, then they can have him.”
