The 25-year-old had endured a difficult 10-month spell at the Beira-Rio following a number of acts of indiscipline, one of which includes the forward failing to show up for a Copa Libertadores group game against The Strongest in March.

”Today, president Alexandre Kalil gave me the good news that we have signed Jo,” Cuca told reporters after Atlético’s 1-0 win over Ponte Preta on Sunday. ”I do not know the details or the length of the contract, but he asked me to announce that we have signed Jo.”

Despite Jo failing to impress at his two former clubs, Internacional and Manchester City, Cuca admitted that he is delighted to have the player in his ranks.

”At 25, Jo is a good signing,” the ex-Cruzeiro boss said. ”He is a player who will no doubt help us. He is a left-footed forward, big, who can also play out on the wings too.”
