The 29-year-old full-back, who joined Arsenal from Fenerbahce last August, told the club’s Official Matchday Programme:
”Brazil will play a few friendly matches, but I don’t expect to get picked, because they will use the players going to the Olympics. The coach will want to prepare for that tournament, so I don’t blame him for that.
”Anyway, last season I played at the Copa America and didn’t have a proper pre-season because of that so I don’t mind having a holiday this summer.
”I need a proper preparation with Arsenal. Last year was crazy with the Copa America and I then had my transfer, so this year I want it to be more relaxed, a more regular start to the season – the opposite of last year!”
