On the day the CBF released the season’s fixtures all eyes in Brazil turned to the Corinthians show. It what is fast becoming a national obsession, Corinthians again showed they might have the money but that doesn’t guarantee success. It a tense game against league leaders São Paulo, it took a single goal to decide the match. Midfielder Danilo scored and goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni saved a late penalty kick as unbeaten Sao Paulo increased their lead in the championship. As all the Brazilian press rounds upon Corinthians and its Directors, the pressure appears to be breaking through into the team.

In Rio Flamengo suffered a 2 x 1 defeat to last weeks first round champions Volta Redonda and Vasco defeated Fluminese in a heated confrontation in the Maracana with Romario firing the winner.
