Kleber, 28, had scored nine goals so far this campaign to rank amongst the top-scorers in the country, but after suffering a bad tackle against Cruzeiro-RS, faces months on the sidelines.

The tackle, from centre-back Léo Carioca, left the striker in agony as it was later revealed that he had sustained a fractured tibula in his right-ankle.

Grêmio Director of Football, Paulo Pelaipe, was incensed by the tackle and after the game was quick to berate the referee for not issuing the defender with a red card.

The mantle will now fall-upon Marcelo Moreno, André Luis and youngster Leandro to make up for the loss of Kléber’s goals.
