Neymar, 20, is currently one of the most sought-after players in the world, but pledged his future to Santos until June 2014, despite reported interest from Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea.

Menezes recently said that the player would be able to fulfil his potential by moving to Europe and would be able to gain more respect, but Pelé has rubbished his compatriots claims.

"I think that Mano does not like Santos," the Brazil legend told Marca Brasil. "I am totally against the sale of Neymar.

"I played my whole life here and Neymar has a chance to continue playing for Santos; to continue winning and doing the work he has been doing with the national team.

"He will still be Neymar, the best in the world."

Pelé then cited Robinho as an example to back up his argument that moving to Europe is not always the best option for Brazilian players.

"You have to be careful," the 71-year-old said. "Robinho was fine when he left in 2005 for Real Madrid and it took him almost a year to adapt and he was a reserve [until then].

"He [Neymar] almost went to England. I also went and got to speak with him and turn him against it, because he can’t play in England or Germany.

"If you go abroad, you have to go where football is more technical, like in Spain and France, but I do not want him to leave."
