Everson Fernando Gomes, 18, is a name to remember and one that will almost-certainly become far more prominent in the years to come.

A defensive-midfielder at Brazilian Champions Corinthians, Gomes was part of the club’s Under-18 side that clinched the prestigious Copa São Paulo title this January and is now making strides in first-team football.

Combative, athletic and a fine passer, Gomes has all the attributes to succeed and Corinthians are giving their youngster every chance of success.

How has it been playing in the Corinthians first-team this season?

Really good. It is a really great time of my life. Right now I am learning and getting better every day in order to seize this opportunity.

On your debut for the first-team, you were booked early on in the game. Did it add to your nerves at the time?

Yes, it made me more nervous. I missed the ball and ended up holding-back the guy, but I got past the nerves and improved later in the game.

Former-Brazil star Adriano took several of the younger players out to eat after training one day, were you with this group? How is Adriano as a person?

I wasn’t even aware of that, but for someone who has won so much he is humble. When he is around he could not be better and we are all equal. He is a good guy.

This Corinthians side have a great team-spirit. Does this make it easier for a young player like yourself to make their way into the side?

It is easier because no player is over-hyped, then it becomes easier to play.

How was your experience at the Copa São Paulo?

The Copa São Paulo was really good and we were champions! It was great for everyone and because of this many of the young players were called to the first-team.

For the rest of the season do you think you will have many first-team opportunities? What are your aims?

I hope to have more opportunities and to make my place in the first-team more secure each time.

With your age, you have a chance to play in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2013. Would you like to be part of that side?

Footballers always have various aims and my ambition is to get into the Seleção. Every day I hope to improve until I reach this target.
