Juan Aurich 1×3 Santos

Goals from Fucile, Ganso and Borges saw Santos to a fine away-win in Peru that leaves the Brazilian side very much in contention for progression to the next stage.

An opening day defeat to The Strongest leaves the Peixe, Internacional and the Colombian side all level on six points at the halfway point of the group-stage.

SANTOS: Rafael; Fucile, Edu Dracena, Durval, Juan; Arouca, Henrique (Adriano), Ibson, Ganso; Neymar, Borges (Alan Kardec). Coach: Muricy Ramalho

Flamengo 3×3 Olimpia

Flamengo contrived to clutch a draw from the jaws of victory on Thursday night as they conceded three goals in the space of twelve late minutes to the visitors from Paraguay.

Having taken an early lead through Argentine midfielder Darío Bottinelli, Flamengo continued to press home their advantage against an overly-physical Olimpia side into the second-half when they doubled their lead through a Ronaldinho penalty.

Vagner Love was the man brought crashing down for the spot-kick and Ronaldinho swept the ball home with ease.

Minutes later it got even better for Flamengo as youngster Luiz Antônio burst forward to finish smartly from Ronaldinho’s through-ball. Flamengo were flying, but were about to throw it all away.

In the space of twelve late minutes goals from Zeballos, Luis Caballero and Marin stole the victory from the Rubro-Negro and had it not been for goalkeeper Paulo Victor’s inspired form it could have been worse still for the hosts.

It is now likely that Flamengo will need to grab an away win against either Olimpia or Emelec-ECU to qualify for the next stage.

FLAMENGO: Paulo Victor; Galhardo, González, David Braz, Júnior César; Muralha, Luiz Antonio, Bottinelli, Thomas (Negueba); Ronaldinho, Vagner Love. Coach: Joel Santana.
