FLUMINENSE 1X0 Zamora

Fluminense were the first of the three Brazilian sides in Libertadores action on Wednesday night and pulled-off a 1-0 home victory against a combative Zamora side.

It was a struggle for Flu, but the additional aerial threat of Rafael Moura in the second-half opened up the game for the likes of Deco and Wellington Nem and after twelve minutes of the second-period Fluminense were deservedly ahead through centre-back Anderson.

The Tricolor hung on for what was a far from pretty win over the Colombian side, but a win which earned three points that see Fluminense resting at the top of Group 4 with maximum points from their three games thus far.

FLUMINENSE: Diego Cavalieri; Bruno, Leandro Euzébio, Anderson, Carlinhos (Carleto); Valencia, Diguinho, Deco (Lanzini); Wellington Nem, Rafael Sobis (Rafael Moura), Fred. Coach: Abel Braga.

Cruz Azul 0-0 CORINTHIANS

Corinthians return home from Mexico unbeaten for the first-time in their history after a goalless draw with Cruz Azui.

CORINTHIANS: Júlio César; Edenílson, Chicão, Leandro Castán, Fábio Santos; Ralf, Paulinho, Danilo (Élton), Alex; Jorge Henrique (Cachito Ramírez), Liedson (Emerson). Coach: Tite.

Libertad 1-1 VASCO

Vasco ultimately did well to emerge from a feisty affair in Asuncion with an away point after the dismissal of Diego Souza early in the second-half left the Cruz de Malta playing with ten-men in front of a partizan home crowd.

Diego Souza had earlier given Vasco the lead, as the Brazilian side asserted themselves well in the opening-period. Fagner’s flighted free-kick from the left found Diego Souza free in the area to power home a header that quietened the hosts for some time.

In the second-half tempers flared and it was Diego Souza who lost his head, swinging an elbow at the chest of his marker and seeing red for his troubles. The arguments continued for some time and Souza appeared to throw a bottle at the Paraguayan crowd, which may see a post-match investigation.

Libertad pushed for an equaliser and got it through José Nuñez, before Nuñez saw red himself for a second-yellow minutes after equalising. Libertad remain top of the group, but Vasco will be more than happy with a point from their travels.

VASCO: Fernando Prass, Fagner, Dedé, Renato Silva (Allan), Thiago Feltri (Rodolfo); Nilton (Rômulo), Eduardo Costa, Felipe, Diego Souza; Wilian Barbio, Alecsandro.  Coach: Cristóvão Borges
