The CBF adopted this strategy last season to curb the chances of a team ‘forfeiting’ a match to purposely hinder their rivals league position.

It was speculated that Grêmio lost to Flamengo on purpose in the final round of the 2010 season, so that their arch-rivals Internacional had no chance of winning the Campeonato Brasileiro title.

Brazil’s football governing body are expected to release the 2012 Campeoanto Brasileiro’s fixture list next week.

FLA-FLU’s 100th Anniversary

2012 is a special year for Flamengo and Fluminense, as it’s the Carioca rivals 100th anniversary. Fluminense have made a request to the CBF, suggesting that the two sides face each other on the 8th July – the day after the anniversary of the first ever ‘FLA-FLU’ match.
