The 27-year-old midfielder was substituted after seventy five minutes in Flu’s 3-0 win against Volta Redonda in the Campeonato Carioca on Saturday.

”My individual debut was not good. I was a little lost in the marking,” Wagner said.

”We analysed Volta Redonda, but they came on the pitch with a completely different attitude to what we thought.

”At half time I realised I was running back way too much. Then I pushed forward and I improved. Now I am already adapted and I hope my individual efficiency will grow. I always want to be a part of the main team and I have to prove myself on the pitch.”

Wagner will have the chance to put things right tonight as he is expected to start in Fluminense’s fixture against Boavista in the Campeonato Carioca.
