On Saturday, Corinthians overcame Mirassol at the Pacaembu, despite falling behind early on to a goal from journeyman midfielder Xuxa. A goal for new-signing Élton and an own goal were decisive for the Timão.

Portuguesa started life as a Serie A side with a shock home defeat to Paulista. They were undone by two players formerly of rival clubs, with Dener (São Paulo) and Rychely (Santos) the scorers.

Last year’s champions Santos started with a 1-1 away draw at XV de Piricicaba. Benfica-loanee Alan Kardec gave the Peixe the lead, but they were denied an away win when André Cunha scores a last minute equaliser.

Former-Serie A side São Caetano pulled-off a mini-shock later on Saturday as they beat newly promoted Ponte Preta 1-0, with Moradei scoring to seal the victory.

Palmeiras overcame a stubborn Bragantino side 2-1 thanks to a late Maikon Leite goal. Leandro Amaro had opened the scoring for the Verdão, before Wellington equalised from the spot on the hour-mark.

São Paulo were utterly convincing in their 4-0 win over Botafogo-SP. The tricolor’s goals came courtesy of defender Rhodolfo, midfielder Cícero, new-signing Édson Silva and a late own-goal.
