Preparing for their derby against Palmeiras on the final day of the season, the Corinthians squad woke to the news of the death of one of the clubs greatest idols.
Corinthians defender, Paulo Andre was a friend of the Brazilian legend and spoke of the tragic news to Esporte Espetacular, claiming the Paulista club must honour him by winning the league title today.
”Katia (Socrates wife) sent me message early this morning. I woke up with sadness. I have a special affection for the doctor, not just me, but the whole country. I hope he looks down at us from heaven and that we can honour him with a title today.”
Corinthians just need atleast a draw against their arch rivals to claim their fifth league title.
